MAY 15th - ROTARY DAY OF SERVICE - CALL TO ACTION
The Middletown Rotary Club will be organizing a cleanup of Dunlop-Wheeler Park and the adjacent Atlantic Beach area on Wed. May 15th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. With Clean Ocean Access no longer in existence, the need is greater than ever. As proud members of our island community, we understand the profound impact that litter can have on our cherished ocean and surrounding environment.
What is Rotary Day of Service? In the month of May more than 800 Rotary clubs and 30,000 Rotarians across 10 states and 5 countries, from Connecticut to Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Colorado, and Wyoming in the United States, plus the countries of Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, and England, will volunteer in their communities for an unprecedented Rotary Day of Service, collecting clothes for homeless, refurbishing parks, and much, much more.
Our SOS, Supporting our Seniors initiative in collaboration with the Middletown Senior Center concluded in April. The results of this campaign was that over $1400 in supermarket gift cards were bought to help seniors facing food insecurity.
On April 9th, we engaged in the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce Expo held at the Wyndham. This gathering provided us with a platform to get to know our club and for us to establish connections with numerous community members.
On April 17th, the Rotary spirit was alive and kicking at the Middletown Senior Center Spaghetti Dinner. A special thanks to Cindy and the kitchen crew, the salad makers, the water & wine pourers, the dessert makers and Larry's microphone & music. Together, we created more than just a dinner; we created an experience brimming with music, deliciousness, laughter, connection, and Rotary fellowship.
On April 22nd, Earth Day 2024, the Interact club collaborated with Middletown High School's service and environmental clubs to organize an Island Youth Earth Day Cleanup. Held at the Gaudet Middle School and Sports Complex, the event brought together local youth, community volunteers, and the Middletown Tree Commission to protect and preserve our sensitive island environment. In addition to cleaning up litter and debris, free tree seedlings for planting were distributed, emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability.
