The Middletown Rotary Club will be organizing a cleanup of Dunlop-Wheeler Park and the adjacent Atlantic Beach area on Wed. May 15th from 5:00 - 6:30 pm. With Clean Ocean Access no longer in existence, the need is greater than ever. As proud members of our island community, we understand the profound impact that litter can have on our cherished ocean and surrounding environment.

RECENT SERVICE ACTIVITIES

Our SOS, Supporting our Seniors initiative in collaboration with the Middletown Senior Center concluded in April. The results of this campaign was that over $1400 in supermarket gift cards were bought to help seniors facing food insecurity.

On April 9th, we engaged in the Greater Newport Chamber of Commerce Expo held at the Wyndham. This gathering provided us with a platform to get to know our club and for us to establish connections with numerous community members.

On April 17th, the Rotary spirit was alive and kicking at the Middletown Senior Center Spaghetti Dinner.  A special thanks to Cindy and the kitchen crew, the salad makers, the water & wine pourers, the dessert makers and Larry's microphone & music. Together, we created more than just a dinner; we created an experience brimming with music, deliciousness, laughter, connection, and Rotary fellowship.

On April 22nd, Earth Day 2024, the Interact club collaborated with Middletown High School's service and environmental clubs to organize an Island Youth Earth Day Cleanup. Held at the Gaudet Middle School and Sports Complex, the event brought together local youth, community volunteers, and the Middletown Tree Commission to protect and preserve our sensitive island environment. In addition to cleaning up litter and debris, free tree seedlings for planting were distributed, emphasizing the importance of environmental sustainability.

APRIL SPEAKERS

Cheryl Hatch - Bureau Reporter - The Public's Radio/89.3 FM

In her capacity as a bureau reporter, Cheryl delves into the lives of individuals on Aquidneck Island and in Newport County, focusing keenly on the issues that shape their existence. During our recent meeting, Cheryl shared three very different stories, each offering a unique perspective on local issues.

Michelle Drew - Naturopathy - Aging with Grace

Michelle Drew's presentation at Rotary emphasized the misconception that aging is inevitable and problematic, highlighting the prevalence of health issues associated with growing older. However, she stressed that with a focus on age-management solutions and lifestyle wellness, individuals can defy the stereotype of aging and enjoy healthier lives.

Drew emphasized the importance of lifestyle changes in improving quality of life and slowing down the aging process. She presented us with 10 things we can do to improve our health. Ultimately, Drew's message encourages individuals to live actively and vibrantly throughout their lives, rather than simply managing symptoms in old age.
