NOVEMBER/DECEMBER SERVICE ACTIVITIES

COMMUNITY COAT DRIVE - The response to our coat drive has exceeded all expectations.  To date, we have collected and distributed more than 425 coats and over 300 outdoor accessories such as hats, gloves, leggings, etc.  Multiple deliveries have been made to both the Martin Luther King Food Pantry and to the Island Oasis Food Pantry at Middletown High School. We have also given coats to Conexion Latina Newport and to OceanPointe church for their monthly dinner with those in need and to the Newport Mental Health center for their mobile crisis van.  KVH Industries and the Middletown Town Hall have been added as additional collection sites.  We'll continue to collect new and gently used coats, jackets, hats, and gloves of all sizes through December 6th.  If you did not have any coats to contribute and would like to make a contribution, we will use the monies to purchase additional needed coats.  Checks can be made out to Middletown Rotary Club and sent to: Middletown Rotary Club P.O. Box 4258 Middletown RI 02842.

LUCY'S HEARTH ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY - Our annual Lucy’s Hearth Holiday Party will be held on Wednesday December 13th at 5:45 in the Johnny’s Anteroom at the Wyndham. The evening will consist of games & activities for the children facilitated by the Interact Club, followed by dinner and the arrival of Santa around 6:45.  During the evening, family photos will be taken by our talented new member Larry, assisted by Deb.

As we celebrate, let's also spread the joy by participating in our gift-giving tradition. Coming soon, look for an email from Janice with details on how to sign up and make a child's holiday extra special. Remember, these gifts should be delivered to the Wyndham front desk by Monday, December 11th.

Additionally, to ensure a seamless experience, please make your dinner reservations in advance by paying Beth $22 for yourself and any guests you plan to bring.

Your help is needed! Party organizers Pat and Deanna will be reaching out to you, seeking your valuable assistance with various tasks to make this event unforgettable.

Let's make this holiday season memorable for everyone involved!

DECEMBER SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - A request from the Lion's Club to assist.  DARE: December 12, 2023 - starting at 7:45 AM at Portsmouth High School for the purpose of helping with Eye Acuity Testing for 9th graaders.  Contact Hector R. for additional details.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER INTERACT CLUB

Our sponsored club for youth aged 12-18, the Middletown/Newport Rotary Interact Club, spent their time at the November meeting decorating the large collection boxes for the coat drive and making uplifting pocket notes to put in the pocket of each donated coat.  In December they will be preparing activities for the children at the annual holiday party for Lucy's Hearth.  We welcome new Interact members, so if you know any young individuals who would like to experience Interact, please contact Tom at Tomkmit@cox.net.

NOVEMBER/DECEMBER PLANNING

The assembly convened on November 29th for club planning sessions. Two crucial discussions are currently in progress. The club members have voted to explore the possibility of a three-month trial, which entails meeting twice a month on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, and on 5th Wednesdays when applicable. Finalization awaits further discussions with the hotel.

Additionally, we engaged in preliminary talks about our budget surplus, exceeding $13,000. We began brainstorming potential ideas to develop a plan for allocating these funds towards our club's priorities.  Please bring your ideas to the December 6th meeting.

ZOOM MEETING OPTION

Starting on September 6th, the club began offering a Zoom meeting option. Members who wish to "zoom in" should send a meeting request to Tom at least a day in advance of a meeting. The Zoom link for the 2023-24 Rotary year is available here: MRC Zoom Meeting Link.

November 2023 Speakers
Larry Kraman - New Member Talk

Hello, I'm Larry Kraman, a passionate individual with roots in Brooklyn, New York. My journey began at Brooklyn College, where I initially pursued law but discovered my true calling in music. As a recording engineer, I captured every note of the music department's performances and later established a recording studio within the department. My knowledge extended to starting the Newport Classic CD music label, releasing numerous classical pieces.

Anticipating changes in the music industry, I transitioned to filmmaking, producing three full-length films. My story reflects dedication to music, recording, and filmmaking, with a knack for building relationships in the evolving entertainment landscape. I'm always eager to share my enriching experiences and insights. Read more below to find links to his films and enjoy at your own pace.

Larry is eager to leverage his talents and experience to contribute to the club. He's proposing an engaging video project that involves creating short film interviews with each current member. Larry suggests conducting these interviews at my home studio, assuring everyone that it won't be an interrogation. Importantly, no interview will be presented until the subject has had a chance to review it.

The interview process is designed to start with a casual discussion about the member's name, background, and the reasons behind their involvement in the Middletown Rotary Club. Larry will then guide the conversation based on the member's responses.

For any inquiries or clarifications regarding these proposed projects, feel free to reach out to Larry directly.
